FORESTIS Dolomites: An Alpine Retreat Exuding Luxury and Tranquility

There are no two opinions: The Dolomites are Südtirol’s crowning glory, a multitude of spectacular, UNESCO-protected peaks in the southern Alps. Nestled in these mountains lies the renowned five-star wellness sanctuary FORESTIS Dolomites, which is unanimously hailed as one of the world’s finest. The hotel opened in 2019 and promises an unparalleled blend of luxury and wellness experiences, which we were lucky enough to experience ourselves.

An Embrace of Nature and Heritage

Perched at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level, enveloped in a densely wooded expanse, this gem of a hotel is strikingly proximate to Brixen – Tirol’s oldest city and well worth a visit. The location on the southern ridge of the Plose, a stunning mountain range in the Dolomites, provides unrivaled access to ski slopes, hiking trails, and awe-inspiring panoramas of these UNESCO World Heritage mountains. This fusion of dense forests, breathtaking peaks, and rich heritage encapsulates an atmosphere that’s distinctly Südtirol.

A Symphony of Luxury and Solitude

We were fortunate to reside in the definite jewel of FORESTIS Dolomites offerings – the extravagant Penthouse. Spread across two floors, spanning an impressive 200 square meters, this suite is a masterclass in luxurious minimalism, harmoniously blended with nature-inspired design. Each night here, priced at a staggering €3500, is a luxurious experience and a doorway to exclusive privileges.

The Penthouse features a private heated pool and sauna on the balcony, an expansive bathroom complete with a walk-in shower and soaking tub, and a daily-replenished kitchen and minibar.

However, the allure of FORESTIS Dolomites extends beyond the Penthouse. The hotel boasts a variety of rooms across multiple buildings, each echoing the ethos of holistic luxury. Suites and rooms are designed with an effortless integration of modern sophistication and rustic charm, offering you an array of choices to suit your preferences.

Bedroom with stunning views

Be it the comfort of the intimate Single Room, the grandeur of the Penthouse, or the balance of design and functionality in the Suite and Tower Suite, each space in FORESTIS Dolomites is a testament to high-end design and profound relaxation. To fully enjoy the incredible mountain views, you should, however, refrain from booking a normal room and book a tower suite instead.

A Taste of Südtirol’s Offerings

Dining at FORESTIS Dolomites Waldküche is an exquisite exploration of Südtirol’s culinary landscape. Chef Roland Lamprecht gained experience in various fine-dining restaurants around Europe. He promises commitment to local farmers through dishes made from the finest locally-sourced ingredients.

Each morning at FORESTIS Dolomites commences with an expansive buffet – and what a buffet it is.

Breakfast buffet

I have never seen such a variety and quality at any other hotel buffet. Customized à la carte options are also available. From continental classics to regional specialties, the selection is included in the room price and promises a delightful start to your day.

Lunch on the outdoor terrace

While lunch is not included in the price for any of the rooms, evenings allow a choice between classic and vegetarian menus, all beautifully presented – that is, if you book half board. Your other option is to book just a room – they always include breakfast. Great: If the small, but sophisticated dishes included in the menu do not sufficiently satisfy your appetite, you can order a second round – for free.

A visit to the elegantly designed bar completes the gastronomic journey, with expertly brewed coffee in the day and a sophisticated range of drinks at night, albeit at a premium price. For example, the Gin Tonic I had was priced slightly above €20.

A Sanctuary of Serenity and Wellness

FORESTIS Dolomites invites you to a world-class spa, a haven of relaxation bathed in natural light. With both indoor and outdoor pools, an array of saunas, steam baths, and tranquil relaxation areas, it is a true sanctuary. A myriad of treatments, including massages and facials, are available to you. Speaking from personal experience, the massage I got here was the most soothing and rejuvenating I have ever received.

In the FORESTIS Dolomites yoga room, you can enjoy Wyda, a movement philosophy of Celtic Druids, aimed at uniting humans with nature, leading to inner harmony and satisfaction. Furthermore, the hotel provides bike rentals, body treatments, and access to the nearby Puez Geisler Nature Park. Whatever your inclination, FORESTIS Dolomites has the activity for you.

Journeying to a Mountain Haven

Reaching FORESTIS Dolomites is an experience in itself, a scenic drive that teases the beauty that awaits. A car is the most convenient mode of transport to reach the hotel, allowing you to soak in the enchanting landscape en route. The quickest route is via the Brennerautobahn A22, with clear signposts leading the way from Brixen or Klausen to Plose/Ski area St. Andrä, and finally to Palmschoss where the FORESTIS Dolomites is situated.

Scenic drive to the hotel

For those arriving by air, a range of airports, including Bolzano, Innsbruck, Verona, Venice, Munich, Milan, and Bergamo, are conveniently located at varying distances. The hotel assists in arranging train and bus journeys on request.

FORESTIS Dolomites also offers a premium transfer service, including a CO2-free Tesla X or an 8-seater minibus for your comfort. This door-to-door service can be arranged from any nearby railway station, airport, or preferred location, further simplifying your journey to this mountain haven.

Upon arrival, the lobby immediately impresses with stunning views of the Dolomite peaks, providing a breathtaking welcome that sets the tone for the memorable stay that lies ahead. What first impressed us was the incredible warmth and hospitality of the staff. Tranquility and deceleration surrounded us from the beginning – something that persisted through our entire stay.

Best Time to Visit FORESTIS Dolomites

Choosing the best time to visit FORESTIS Dolomites hinges on personal preferences. For winter sports enthusiasts, the peak skiing months of January to March are ideal. However, the wellness offerings and serene ambiance make it a year-round retreat. The summer months open up a host of activities, from hiking to cycling, amid the refreshing alpine landscapes.

Imperfections Amid the Perfection

While the FORESTIS Dolomites is undeniably a paragon of luxury, a few aspects could be subjective drawbacks for some. The dark design of the bar, though elegant, may not appeal to everyone’s taste. Also, the steep pricing across services, including drinks and notably room service, can be a point of contention. The high-end experience comes with a matching price tag that might not sit comfortably with all guests.

My Last Word on FORESTIS Dolomites

Regardless of when you choose to visit, rest assured that a memorable and rejuvenating experience awaits at this remarkable hideaway nestled in the Dolomites. The FORESTIS Dolomites offers impeccable luxury and an incredible overall experience of tranquility and serenity to those who can afford it.
